Search Me Search Engine
Search Me Search Engine
With the speculation that Apple might be a possible buyer for Yahoo, one wonders what a search engine developed by Apple might look like. My guess is that it might look something like the SearchMe visual search engine. It has the same sort of interface as the iphone and ipod touch where each of the search results are displayed visually and can be flipped through. As you can test in this widget.
This is a nice feature. The bottom portion of the screen displays the result in a standard way so you can read the description. The description is also shown when your mouse pointer rolls over the page. It is all written in Flash as you might expect.
If such visually appealing search engines were to catch on then we would all have to pay more attention to the aesthetics of ours sites as there are plenty of boring looking pages. When presented with the information in this form one tends to click on the most exciting looking pages.
If you don’t want the full whizzing around web page experience, then there is a lite-version which displays the a traditional 2d results with simple screen shots alongside the title and description.
You can submit your site here. It is good way of searching the web which adds another dimension that search engines have not been able to capture, namely images in their context. Looking a page we can make a judgement about the content and the quality of a page in an instant from the design and images it uses. My only gripe is that each time you move the stack of web pages it creates another URL in your back button list so that you have go back a long way through the tab history.
